Nathanael Buckley is a certified Pilates Instructor who became certified while dancing professionally in New York City. He began with a four-year Pilates apprenticeship with Pilates pioneer Fran Lehan, and then continued his education with Kelly Kane and the Kane School for Core Integration. He taught at Chelsea Piers Sports Center, expanding their Pilates program, and worked with the children in the Ice Skating program there. In 2008 he spent a year in Oxford, UK teaching Classical Pilates Technique and training one of the rowing squads at Oxford University. He had the opportunity to row competitively with the college team while his wife was pursuing her MBA, and has had a love of rowing ever since. Following the UK, he spent 4 years in Sydney Australia, teaching Pilates, raising a family, and learning to surf. In Sydney, he became certified in Booty Barre, trained a high school rugby and athletics squad, and continued to expand his Pilates and fitness expertise. He developed a technique for modifying Pilates exercises into games for babies that can be done anywhere, and built the “Playlates” app to promote it and provide a low-cost alternative to baby “gym” classes.
He draws from a wide range of techniques and styles, and has always appreciated how Pilates compliments all actives and abilities. He’s always looking for a new way to challenge students and make classes entertaining and enjoyable.
