New to Pilates?
How to Get Started
Our dynamic instructors are here to help, whatever your fitness level! We know the Pilates machines can look a bit intimidating at first so we have comfy (but challenging!) first steps. We have lots of first timers in our Mighty Foundations classes to get a hang of our style and familiarize yourself with our equipment. You’ll learn how to use the Reformer and other equipment with springs. Or start with a Private 1:1 session master the equipment and learn how to maximize every move.
What to Expect
If you have never been to Pilates class before, it may be a bit intimidating to see all the equipment, but an instructor will guide you through. You can perform tons of different exercises on the Reformers and Spring stations, using the springs to provide guidance and resistance throughout your workout. Our group classes tend to be a bit more of a work out while using the classic Pilates principals. The classes tone and firm up the entire body, with special emphasis on the core. Just like weights, the springs can be adjusted to different resistance levels to whatever is right for you. *Please note, filming is prohibited without manager approval. We want you to have the best 50 min to yourself for a great workout.
HOW TO PREP
- Pick a class and sign up beforehand, as many classes fill up
- Wear comfortable workout clothes that you feel ok sweating in. You’ll be laying down some of the time (yes, laying down and working out!) with your hands or legs in the air so make sure your clothes move with you.
- Grip socks are required. We sell them in-studio if you do not have your own pair.
- Check in 10 min early so we can show you around, have you fill out a quick form, & meet your instructor
- You can bring water bottle – we have filtered water for you
- We have sweat towels, basics like hair bands, makeup remover, deodorant and lotion. We have chilled lemon, eucalyptus, lavender towels to cool down after class.
- Come ready to be energized and have fun!
BENEFITS OF PILATES
Pilates doesn’t stress your body in the ways that lifting weights or other workout methods may, this is why everyone can do it. Your bones will strengthen, muscles will tone and firm, and you will look fit. But, most of all, as you work out and begin to feel better physically, we hope you will also begin to feel better mentally. You’ll stand taller, move with grace and most importantly, feel energized. One of the best things about Pilates is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Uber-athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, fitness buffs, yogis, and women rebounding from pregnancy.
PILATES BACKGROUND
Pilates is a form of body conditioning originally created by ultra-fit Joseph H. Pilates in the early 1920’s. “Joe” interned in a camp after WWI where he practiced his physical fitness program and helped rehab the disabled and sick. He used bed springs to create the first Reformer. After the War, he opened a studio near the New York City Ballet. His method consists of over 500 exercises on the equipment he designed. He said, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a different body.”
Our instructors are Pilates certified from a variety of different programs inspired by Joseph Pilates. Most programs take at least 600 hours to complete. So unlike some studios or other workouts, Mighty instructors can help modify for your specific needs and really know how to give you a great workout from head to toe. We incorporate the classic form of Pilates with other great fitness moves to give you energetic, challenging workouts!
